HeroEngine is 3D game Engine. It is a platform for all-in-one development to make and operate online games. It is written in C++, C# and HeroScript Language (HSL) and used to develop games for the platform of Microsoft Windows. HeroEngine was developed by Simutronics Corporation for the game Hero’s Journey; however the game was never released. Later it was sold to Idea Fabrik in 2010. The Company hired all the employees of the former company for the support and documentation of HeroEngine and HeroCloud. Its first Stable version was released in December, 2012.

We saw HeroEngine as a very powerful tool set where through some changes in technology and additions of complementary services we could provide a new business model for smaller game studios in both the MMO and social game markets.

The engine is being employed by many big game studios such as Bioware, Electronic Arts, ZeniMax and Stray Bullet Games. It is also focusing on indie (individual) development and small companies. It was thought to be made for MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games, but any type of game can be developed on it e.g. RPG (Role-Playing Games), FPS (First Person Shooter), MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game­), Social Games and many others.

HeroEngine provides the facility of online creation by providing cloud based real-time collaborative platform. This feature allows developers effortlessly work on a single project sitting at different parts of the world in real-time. It helps create and update game faster and play at the same time to see instant results. Besides, HeroCloud enables developers not to worry about backend expenses and expertise for their games. A yearly subscription (30% of sales) is required for the license. With HeroEngine, get rid of server expertise for just $90 per year.
